How Chiropractic Can Help Your Neck Curve

Did you know that your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball?

That's a lot of weight to be carrying around on what is in fact a pretty thin neck.

Imagine it this way: if you put a bowling ball directly on top of a pole, it would put its weight directly down, and it would be easy to hold up.

But if you pushed the bowling ball a little forward or backwards, the weight starts to drag the pole downwards, and it's pretty hard for you to hold!

The same applies to your spine. You get an injury to your back, neck or hips, and then they start to compensate for the injury. Your head starts to tilt forwards. This puts strain on your neck muscles, on your shoulders and back.

Eventually you're standing like that the whole time, with most of your body slightly twisted to take the weight.

Every part in your body is to some degree connected to every other part. When one of them gets put out of its correct shape or position, then there is a chain reaction.

So whilst you think that your neck has little connection to your back and hips, and even to your organs - think again. When your neck starts to move out of shape, your whole body will start to twist along with it.

You will probably have this condition to some degree without even realising it. Pretty much everyone has.

The thing is, what can you do about it?

One of the most effective things you could do would be to see your local chiropractor. Chiropractors are highly skilled at returning your neck to its optimum curve, and getting your body to align properly with that.

Now you may have a view of chiropractors as "neck crackers" and "crunchers," but not all chiropractors use such techniques! There is a whole branch of chiropractic which uses gentle, non-force techniques to help the body to realign itself.

In short, we help your body to retrain itself.

The other thing you can do is an exercise.

This is a simple procedure, requiring only a few minutes every day. But whilst it is simple, don't be deceived! It is powerfully effective.

Lie down flat on your back and take a rolled-up towel. Place it behind your neck. You could also place another below your lower back if you wish. Try it out and see how each feels.

You may be surprised to see how much change you get out of such a simple exercise. Your neck will start to return to its natural curve, and your back will straighten as well.

Keep it up! It will greatly increase your health and wellbeing.
